We started off the week with more snow! Sunday was the worse day, but then Monday night we got a layer of ice on top of the snow. Tuesday it snowed again. Chris and I managed to only miss 5 hours each of unscheduled PTO. We’re pretty worried about missing work because of the weather as The Secret Place only allows 40 hours of missed work for a 12 month period. There are already people who have missed 4 days this year because of snow. What happens when they get sick? Or what happens next winter if the snow star starts back up in November?
Far more people are fired for ‘attendance’ than any other reason. While I understand the company needing us to be there when we’re scheduled; it seems ludicrous to me that they would fire really good employees because of a few snowstorms.
Of course, the supervisors and administrators are excused during the snowstorms. It’s just us peons who are considered totally dispensable. Actually, employees who have been there a couple of years with a good work record ARE an asset to the company. I don’t understand what it profits them to dehumanize us.
I guess I have always worked for smaller businesses where things are different.
Anyway, we’ve made it through January. The weatherman is predicting more snow and ice this week for us. I hope we can make it through the rest of the winter without missing more than one more day. So far we have escaped all the illnesses that have been going around.
Of course, lots of people at The Secret Place go to work sick so they won’t get fired for ‘attendance’. This makes other people sick, who in turn work sick. We’re locked in a giant call center with recycled microbes of viral bacteria wafting through the air leering at us.
Now we have new ‘compliancy’ requirements which demand we take our breaks at the exact pre-scheduled minute. We must be back on the phone on time, too. Any minutes worked early or late are ticking away at our compliance. As if we have control over the calls coming in. I have a feeling that soon ‘compliancy’ will be in a tight race with ‘attendance’ for employees being escorted out the back way.
As for me, I’ll try to continue being a good girl so I can hopefully keep my job.

Josh and Leah made it to California and are staying in a Travis AFB posh billeting suite. Although Leah had requested base housing, they decided to look off base and found an apartment already! They will gain possession of it on Tuesday and there stuff will be delivered Wednesday.
I know it will be nice to get moved and settled. Josh is looking for a job.
Hopefully I will make it out there at least once while they live there. The Secret Place is generous with vacation days, so it’s a definite possibility.
Leah has a birthday this month so I have to think of something to send her. Maybe something for the new apartment.

Since the air has been bitter cold, I had planned to put up a new Tatouage mural on Mom’s wall today instead of bringing her home. However, it warmed up a little bit and there was a clear enough path from the driveway to the porch, so I decided to go ahead and get her out for a while.
She seemed to enjoy herself. Maybe next weekend I’ll get around to the Tatouage.
Mom’s hair has been clean every day since the day shift gals started doing the bathing. The night shift lady told me that she had indeed been washing Mom’s hair 3 times a week and that the day shift had been putting lotion in it to make it look dirty. Can you believe she said that? I didn’t dare pass that on to the other shift.
I know she isn’t being honest because there was always a natural progression of filth. Monday I would notice Mom’s hair was dirty. Since I knew she got bathed on Tuesday nights, I would let it go. Tuesday it would be a bit dirtier and Wednesday it would be stuck to her head. Her hair was so dirty sometimes that I actually thought it was wet. Then I would wash it and watch the whole thing happen over. This has been going on for literally months and months. I think this problem may be finally over now. Time will tell.
Mom sang a little bit with my CD in the car today and she wore my sunglasses again. She’s so cute!
