Come to the Party! Everyone’s Invited! Come see an Elvis Impersonator - November 10

Okay, Elvis isn’t exactly my ‘thing’, but it sounded like something Mom might enjoy and Carole wanted to go, so we went. We walked in and all the employees of the adult care center were eating pizza and drinking sodas. After a while when nothing was offered to us, I noticed that none of the participants or others attending the ‘party’ had any refreshments either. Elvis had his wife and small baby with him, as well as his parents and his cousin. It always warms me to see a close knit family and this was no exception. The singing was great.. they had a karaoke machine with them and Elvis sang as well as his 16 year old cousin. Mom was tapping her foot and even got up and danced to one song. I know she enjoyed herself. When the singing was over, I saw one of the workers enter with plates of pizza. “Oh, NOW they’re going to serve everyone!” I thought to myself. Oops, wrong again.. she was serving her husband.
This took me back in time to our trip to Greece when I was married. The itinerary said we (the group from Germany) would meet the Greek tour guide in the hotel lobby for a ‘get acquainted drink’. When we met there; the German tour guide and the Greek tour guide had drinks while we all stood there empty handed and watched.
ANYWAY, since by now it was 3 P.M. and Carole, Mom, nor myself had any lunch, we decided to go out to eat. When I tried to give Mom her medicine, first she palmed it, then she threw it across the room when I tried to get it out of her hand. While Carole and I searched the floor for the pills, Mom made her getaway out the front door. So much for going out to eat. I sat on a bench across from the parking lot and Carole was forced to listen to me go on and on about Mom. In Mom’s defense, I can’t expect her to behave when she is hungry. Mom got tired of waiting for me and started walking off, so Carole and I joined her. She refuses to take walks anymore at home, so at least I got in somewhat of a walk by following her through a field. Carole patiently cajoled her back to the parking lot and we all left.

Wednesday night someone slashed two of Chris’s tires while he was working. We don’t know who did it and the only suspect we have is someone at work who he got into an argument with the night prior. Of course, it could very well be random vandalism, but as far as I know his was the only car involved. Oh yeah, they scraped down the side of his car, too. I filed a police report, so if this continues we’ll have a record of it. Now Chris doesn’t want to drive to work anymore. The good part of all this is that I have zero deductible on comprehensive (thanks Karen) so it didn’t cost Chris any money. Those were tires I had bought him for his birthday in June and I certainly didn’t appreciate the act. There is mall surveillance and Chris is going to see if any cameras were aimed at the parking lot where his car was parked. That would be too cool if they had the culprit on video. At any rate, I have cautioned Chris to let the Lord handle it and not to try to retaliate himself.

Tomorrow we have a three hour long morning church service because the missionaries are going to speak. I love hearing about the work going on in other countries. Hopefully Mom will be able to hang in there that long. If not, maybe I’ll have Chris take her home and come back to get me later. I need to be fed and rebuked and encouraged. I need to drink from the well that never runs dry.

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
