Looking through my closet I realize I have nothing to wear to the graduation banquet on Friday night. Actually, I have the perfect dress, but it’s too small. Grrr. I’ll figure something out because I’m not going to let anything dampen my spirits now that I’m finally getting out of town for a weekend. Chris and I will head for Virginia Beach on Friday morning and come back home after church on Sunday.

Foundation Bible College is having it’s second year’s graduation ceremony this weekend. I have many friends affiliated with the school, so it’s a great opportunity to see everyone. My friend, Cathy, will be getting her Master’s degree, too. I sure miss all my old friends from the beach.

Alan Moravek will be speaking at the banquet and I’m excited to be seeing him and his wife again. They are dedicated Christian friends who I haven’t seen since I moved to Roanoke. He is a traveling evangelist, but Roanoke doesn’t seem to be one of his stops so far.

I may also be seeing the Kumars, Indian missionaries I was able to have in my home for a couple of days when they spoke nearby. Ramesh Kumar is the director/founder of Shalom Baptist Seminary, Publications, and Orphanage in Bangalore, India. Their children have followed in their footsteps by serving Jesus and they have a sweet family. Being Christians in India is not easy as there are militant Hindis all around who are not shy about terrorizing and making trouble for God’s people.

I just missed the beloved Dr. Frank Sells, who was there last week. He is 93 years old and supposedly that was his last visit to the area. I’m very sad I didn’t get to see him. [I realize nobody reading this cares if I missed Mr. Sells. I’m really writing it here for a record of his last visit to Hampton Roads. That way when someone tries to remember when it was, I can secretly look it up and then amaze them with my ability to recollect.]

Last night when I tried to change Mom she became agitated immediately, so I decided to wait until this morning. She had tossed her undies previously, and I was able to get her to clean herself with a wipie. She willingly put on her clean undies, too. I was beside myself with joy, but it was short lived. As soon as I suggested putting on the clean clothes that were laid out, her fangs grew long and she hissed at me.

“Aw Mom, you were being so cooperative! Don’t act like that.”

“Cooperative?!?” she exclaimed loudly, followed by derisive laughter as she bolted out of the room.

“Yes, you were just for a minute. That is funny to think of you as being cooperative.”

She tried to bite my arm when I was putting the shirt on her. She has only bit me once before. Now I usually threaten to hit her or bite her back and she stops. I don’t know if she stops because she is afraid of me or if she stops because she suddenly realizes she is hitting/biting me.

Anyway, she was very angry after her shirt was on successfully and she marched herself outside in her stocking feet. I kept an eye on her through the window, but was unconcerned as Mom never willingly leaves the yard. There she was, clean pants with her dirty skirt still over top them, shirt, and knee high stockings rolled down, pacing the perimeter of the yard in a bit of a fury. She tried to get in the back screen door, but found it locked. She immediately went back to the front and came in. After a short time of fuming, she seemed cheery once again.

I only have to make it through two more days and I get a weekend of laughter, encouragement, spiritual feeding, friends, and maybe a glimpse of the ocean. I get to see Chuck and Cathy’s new baby (6 months old now) for the very first time! Perhaps I’ll get to talk to Missy, who just returned from a very eventful missions trip to Liberia. Even though I grew up in Roanoke, going to Hampton Roads is indeed like going home.

It’s almost time to go.
