I had another crazy, busy week at work, but now I am planning to have a normal work week. We'll see if that really happens. Some extra work already came up at the last minute, but so far it has all been assigned to someone else. My colleague and I be starting the second week of a four week class. We do have a couple of folks who aren't catching on super quickly, but that's not surprising. It's hard to get people to listen even in a classroom. These people are all sitting in their own homes, with family and other distractions. It's hard to focus and listen.
Karen came down Friday night. Her trip was uneventful until she arrived into Roanoke. She ended up getting caught on the main strip during cruise night. This is a major Roanoke annual event. She stayed in the parade instead of turning off to a side street, so it took her a while to get to my house. However, she got to see lots of cool cars., flirt with some Hispanic guys, and learn a little about southern living. *smile*
After she finally arrived, we did our usual catching up and watched a little of a movie. I fell asleep and she escaped to the computer. Then Josh called and woke me up and we started watching the movie again. Karen said it was weird. It was called Lars and the Real Girl. I have to admit it was weird, but I kinda liked it. Maybe that's because I'm kinda weird, too.
On Saturday morning Karen broke her glasses. She decided to get new ones instead of getting those repaired. We went to Lenscrafters and she bought the coolest pair of glasses! They look really, really good on her! We bought Chris some Polo shirts for his birthday. I know it was late, but there was a bad birthday experience, and I was trying to make it up to him. Between Karen and me, he ended up with five new shirts and he was very happy. So now I'm happy.
We went and met my breast friends for lunch at the Flat Rock Grill. It had a nice, somewhat upscale atmosphere and the food was okay. I liked the crab/shrimp dip better than anything else, though. I hesitate to bring visitors to our lunches, since we're mostly talking about boobs and cancer stuff, but Karen jumped right into the convo and fit right in. Everything was going along just swimmingly, when Karen mentioned she was from Charles Town. Boy, did that wake everyone up! Seems Susan and Kim both love the slots…. Well, especially Susan's husband. Now I'm supposed to be planning a road trip in the not so far off future for all of us to go to Charles Town. Hee. Personally, I don't like the slots, but I would love to see a horse race at some point.
After lunch, we went and got our hair cut. I am so happy about that! I finished chemo one year ago (happy anniversary to me) and this was my first trim. I needed it badly, but just never had the energy to make it to the mall. Karen delivered me to the doorway to each place we went to minimize my walking. I was still dead tired at the end of the night, but we had a great day! We took home some Chinese food and continued watching our weird movie and talking. LOL
Karen left this morning after visiting with Chris for a while and we went off to pick up Mom. I'm going to have to keep Chris with me from now on to get Mom back out of the car. I mentioned recently how hard she was to get out. Chris was not thrilled when I mentioned it today, but after we took Mom back, he understood. She was pushing backwards against him as hard as she could. Of course, it's no problem for him, but he could see why I couldn't do it. This will make Chris a bit later getting home, but we'll work it out for as long as I feel it's advantageous to Mom. She loved the hot fudge sundae and water! Mmmm! Chris and I both had double cheeseburgers.
Mom keeps looking at the ceiling. It's hard to get fluids down her because she won't lower her face to the cup rim. She is still really pitiful and getting so weak. Even with all the extra calories, she is still looking very thin. I did manage to visit on Thursday and Friday and gave her the Boost.
One thing's for sure, I didn't get enough rest this weekend! Tomorrow will force me back into the groove for another fun filled work week!
