I’m almost afraid to say this aloud, but it appears that Tana is finally *mostly* better. I was able to mix in her usual
dry dog food with the special prescription food with no ill affects. However, she hasn’t been able to properly digest a
dog biscuit. I guess I’ll save them for later. I sure do love my baby girl. *smile*

My body pulled the insomnia thing on me the night before the business seminar. I tossed and turned. I prayed for my
many friends in dire straights these days. I read. I took two (a couple of hours apart) Ativans. I read some more. I
took off my covers. I covered back up. I went to the bathroom about 6 times. I finally dozed off around 5 A.M. I
could have just skipped the workshop, but I decided to go and stay as long as possible.
The last conference I attended was Creative Caregiving at the very posh Hotel Roanoke. There were huge layouts of
all sorts of food. Fresh fruit, cheeses, bagels, homemade cookies, etc. Drinks too. Coffee, Perrier, soft drinks, etc. All
this was available to nibble on between sessions. A delicious meal was also served to all at lunch time.
Coincidentally, I paid the same price for both seminars ($35). [Of course, the Alzheimer’s Association and Virginia
Tech supported Creative Caregiving.]
In contrast, the Small Business Entrepreneur Workshop was held in a warehouse style building on some back road of
an industrial type area. I was even a bit frightened to park my car and get out alone to venture into the building.
However, the group sponsoring the event was SCORE, a group of retired businessmen who volunteer their time
to help others get started in business.
An announcement was made when I entered offering box lunches for $7.00. They did have coffee and a couple of
boxes of donut holes available. I’m just sitting there thinking to myself, “What happened to Hotel Roanoke?”
I did learn a couple of interesting facts and I’m not sorry I went. The SCORE guys were great and I am thrilled to
know I can get free counseling from people who have ‘been there and done that’. They invited me to call for an
appointment anytime. Even though they work specific hours, one guy offered to meet anyone at the library who
wasn’t available during their regular hours. These guys really go the extra mile to help folks they have never met.
Because of my lack of sleep, I had a rough time staying awake and ended up leaving early.
After experiencing bare bones and grand, I must admit I enjoy being pampered while I’m educated.

The basement is full of water and it’s definitely not caused by rain. Unfortunately I don’t believe it came from the
washing machine, either. I’m thinking hot water heater, but I hope I’m wrong. I called a plumber who is supposed to
be coming later today.
Okay, I found the source of the flooded basement. Mom turned on the hose last night and had it positioned under the
porch. Twenty hours later, I noticed the problem. EEK! Obviously the water is leaking through the basement wall
adjacent to the porch. Since Roanoke is in the midst of a drought, we’re not even allowed to use our hoses! Not only
have we had ours on for twenty hours, it wasn’t even quenching the thirst of our poor parched grass or plants.
What a royal mess I have to clean up now. I have been sweeping and sweeping the water toward the drainage hole.
Since there is still at least a half foot pool of water lying against the basement wall, I’m assuming all the water I am
sweeping up is being quickly replaced. Everything that was on the floor is wet. I have the washer going (that’s
always a good thing) while I survey the damage. Tana came down to help me by sitting in the water. Yes, Tana, who
HATES baths (but just had one) thought it would be fun to sit her rump down in the filthy basement water. She
treaded back and forth through the pond, making sure she got as much fur as possible wet and dirty.
I called the handyman back and asked him to bring his shop vac. I just hope he shows up to help!

Mom is happy today. I enjoy seeing her smiling face, oblivious to flooded basements, sick animals, or other such
mundane problems.
Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for
the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
