A Marriage Lost
It was not upon you alone the dark night fell,
The darkness wrapped its tentacles around me also.
I too wandered the foul trail of degeneracy,
Took pleasure in the things of this world.
Ignoring that which God had shown me to be The Way.
Choosing instead to appease my wanton flesh.
Teetering on the narrow strip atop the fence
Unwilling to give up God, not apt to give up sin.
Leaning first this way, then that;
Knowing which side would ultimately claim me,
Yet malignantly struggling against it.
Foolish and unlearned little lost lamb.
Oh, but could I take back those days.
Swallow them up within me and replace them with chaste loyalty.
To be free of my guilt, the knowledge of my own iniquity.
Able to stand before you innocent in our grave adversity.
No, it is not you alone who suffers the accountability.
Perhaps even moreso the one who should have known better.
