Mom didn’t seem to recognize my brother when he was here. She was grouchy for a while at first, but she warmed up to him and they ended up having a nice visit. Mom seems to like men and she treated him much like she treats all men. I’m sure he realized she didn’t know who he was.... although today I mentioned his name and she perked up. She wanted to know if I had seen him. I’m just thankful she was nice to him.

The funeral went well and it was nice to see my relatives. I don’t really know them, but I wish I did. They were basically banned from our home by Mom when I was growing up and my dad didn’t sneak me over to visit them very often. It’s so peculiar to be with these people who are part of my heritage, yet almost strangers. I may make it a point to try to get together with my cousins soon. All they can do is say no, right?

Anyway, I feel so sorry for my aunt, who has lost her life-mate after 62 years. She has been such a servant all her life, caring for her mother in her home and her children and husband, also. According to my dad, she pretty much waited on everyone hand and foot. Now she is getting elderly herself and it’s her turn to have someone take care of her for a little while before she passes on. She needs some serious pampering!

Mom has been in a great mood for two days now. After my sister left today, I needed to pick up a book I had reserved at the library. Mom was in a good mood and I noticed Lois had her door open, so I stopped and Mom let Lois cut her hair! I have been trying to find a time when Mom would cooperate to take her there for months! Now her hair is nice and short and will be much easier to keep looking presentable. I am so happy about this! :-) .
